MANILA 25 April 2024 – Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo met his Lithuanian counterpart, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, on Wednesday, 24 April 2024, in Manila. 

The Foreign Ministers discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. Secretary Manalo expressed appreciation for the Foreign Minister’s statement following the water cannon incident in the West Philippine Sea in early December 2023, and Lithuania’s clear expression of solidarity with the Philippines and support for the 2016 Arbitral Award. Both countries consider each other as like-minded partners that support the preservation of the rules-based international order.

Secretary Manalo and Minister Landsbergis affirmed  their  commitment to further deepen the relationship between the Philippines and Lithuania.  The two countries are working on various forms of cooperation, including trade and investments, clean energy, science and technology including health and laser technology, and people-to-people links. 

To spearhead economic exchanges, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister brought with him a business delegation interested in partnerships with their Filipino counterparts in the areas of energy, and information and communications technology.  

Two agreements were signed in the presence of the two ministers, one between the Philippine Football Federation and the Lithuania Football Federation, and another between Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. 

Secretary Manalo and Minister Landsbergis signed a Joint Statement highlighting common understanding and positions on regional and international issues, and our commitment to pursue various areas of cooperation.  

The Ministers also look forward to the inaugural Philippines-Lithuania political consultations in June 2024 in Manila, signaling their commitment to sustaining diplomatic exchanges and deepening their bilateral relations. END
