DFA-OUMA Conducts Briefing on Benchmarking Governance and Key Success for Management of Filipino Migrant Workers

PASAY 13 May 2024 – The Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Worker’s Affairs’ (OUMWA) held a briefing on Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) and the role of the Department of Foreign Affairs at the Amb. Francisco L. Benedicto Conference Rm, FSI Library. 

The briefing was requested by Indonesia’s Office of the President to benchmark governance and key success for migrant workers using the Philippines as a model and standard. 

During the briefing, Undersecretary Eduardo José A. de Vega welcomed the Indonesian delegation and other guests. Assistant Secretary Robert O. Ferrer Jr. presented the ATN mandate as the third pillar of Philippine foreign policy which included the legal framework and administrative mechanism for diaspora engagement and management, particularly to operationalize the envisioned ecosystem of services intended to empower and protect OFWs.  

The Indonesian delegation was composed of Hon. Edy Priyono, Head of Delegation; Mr. Fadjar Dwi Wishnuwardhani; Mr. Bodro Pambuditomo; Ms. Devi Triasari; Ms. Lindi Mahesi and Ms. Krischely Mendome Mahaling. Undersecretary de Vega, Assistant Secretary Ferrer were joined by Deputy Assistant Secretary Bryan Dexter B. Lao and Asia Director Querobine D. Laccay. Other DFA Offices were represented by ASPAC Deputy Assistant Secretary Leah Victoria C. Rodriguez, ASPAC Acting Director for Mainland Southeast Asia Mr. Charles L. Ching, and FSI Foreign Affairs Research Specialist Mr. Eugene Sumakwel T. Servigon. END
