MANILA, 01 July 2024 – Philippine Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo held a bilateral meeting with visiting Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan on 01 July 2024. This is the first visit of Minister Hasan to the Philippines since taking the helm of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry last December.

The visit follows the successful state visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to Malaysia in July 2023 and the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim in March 2023.

Secretary Manalo said that “FM Hasan’s visit builds upon the momentum created by the two leaders and is very timely as the two countries enter 60 years of bilateral relations and as both countries continue to expand and deepen their partnership and collaboration.”

Both Foreign Ministers noted the progress in several Memoranda of Understanding namely on Sports, Cultural Cooperation, Tourism, Higher Education and on the development of the Halal Industry.  Both sides committed to conclude negotiations on these MOUs.

Aside from discussing the improving bilateral relations, both Foreign Ministers had a productive exchange of views on a number of international and regional developments of common interest.  END
