Secretary Manalo and Thai Foreign Minister Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations, Commemorate 75 Years of Diplomatic Ties

MANILA 04 July 2024 – Secretary Enrique A. Manalo met with His Excellency Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, on 4 July 2024 during the latter’s introductory visit to Manila on 03-04 July 2024.
The two foreign ministers discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the Philippines and Thailand, particularly on tourism, trade, investments, education, renewable energy, food security and defense. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues, such as the ongoing situation in Myanmar, the South China Sea, and the Middle East. They also committed to work closely together to promote peace and stability in the region and in the international community.
Secretary Manalo described the visit as a “welcome development as both countries celebrate this year the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations with Thailand.” He also looked forward to the convening of the 6th Philippines-Thailand Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation “to take stock of bilateral relations, review and explore, if not agree on, new areas of cooperation, and exchange views on regional and international issues.”
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand were established on 14 June 1949. END
