Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Receives 

German Member of the Parliament Kiesewetter

MANILA 01 August 2024 – Acting Secretary for Foreign Affairs Charles C. Jose received Mr. Roderich Kiesewetter, Member of the German Bundestag, on 26 July 2024 at the Department of Foreign Affairs. 

During the meeting, Acting Secretary Jose and Mr. Kiesewetter recalled the exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries this year, which include the visit to Manila by Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in January 2024 and the visit to Berlin by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. in March 2024. Acting Secretary Jose conveyed that these visits manifest the strong relations between the Philippines and Germany. 

The two officials noted that the Philippines and Germany are celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations this year and reaffirmed commitment to strengthen collaboration in various areas, including trade and investment, and defense.

Acting Secretary Jose thanked Germany for its steadfast support for the 2016 Arbitral Award and the Philippine position on the West Philippine Sea. Mr. Kiesewetter affirmed that maritime security and rules-based international order should be defended. 

This was the second time for Mr. Kiesewetter to visit the Philippines.  END
