PASAY 11 September 2024 – On 5 September 2024, the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) and the University of the Philippines (UP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding strengthening the institutions’ cooperation in the field of research. Through this, the FSI and the Center for Integrative and Development Studies (CIDS), UP’s policy research unit, will have an expanded communication on national, regional, and international issues and provide support in the nation-building effort through the overall development of research and publications, intellectual exchange as well as sharing of educational and cultural resources.

The signing of the MOU highlights FSI’s and UP CIDS’ commitment to promote understanding of the Philippines’ maritime and archipelagic identity. The ceremony also coincides with the celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Awareness Month (MANAMo).

The Foreign Service Institute is the training and research office of the Department of Foreign Affairs created under Presidential Decree No. 1060, as expanded by Republic Act No. 7157. The FSI Board is chaired by the Secretary for Foreign Affairs with the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Director General of the Institute, President of the University of the Philippines (UP), and President of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) as members.
