CO Puerto Princesa Joins 13th Edition of “Save the Puerto Princesa Bays” Coastal Clean Up

PUERTO PRINCESA 30 October 2024 – At daybreak of 19 October 2024, Consular Office (CO) Puerto Princesa personnel gathered alongside employees of the City Government of Puerto Princesa, other government offices, and civic groups in the coastal area of Abanico Road, Barangay San Pedro, Puerto Princesa City (PPC) for this year’s 13th Episode of Season 2 of the City Government’s “Save the Puerto Princesa Bays” Program. The CO’s active participation in this activity is part of its continuing Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo) advocacy. The CO Team was also present during the International Coastal Clean-Up held on 21 September 2024.
During this day’s event, the CO Puerto Princesa Team alone collected a total of fifteen (15) sacks of rubbish piled underneath houses set on stilts along the Puerto Princesa Bay that contributed to 2.55 tons of rubbish collected in the area on that day. A total of 602.55 tons of rubbish were collected during the series of thirteen (13) episodes of “Save the Puerto Princesa Bays Season 2.”
This coastal clean-up program was also carried out in preparation for the 2024 ICF World Dragon Boat Championship that will be hosted by Puerto Princesa City from 26 October 2024 to 4 November 2024. A total of twenty six countries (26) will be joining this year’s Dragon Boat Championship.
In his message, PPC Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron emphasized the significant role each resident should play in protecting the bays of the City of Puerto Princesa from pollution and other environmental threats that destroy its rich marine resources. He said that residents’ joint efforts of simply keeping their surroundings clean while promoting environmental protection will serve as an inspiration for other municipalities to work together in preserving our country’s rich marine resources and natural beauty for the generations to come.
Because of its various proactive environmental conservation and tourism promotion projects, the City Government of Puerto Princesa has been recognized as the Cleanest and Greenest Component City of the Philippines, the Cleanest and Greenest City in Region IV, the Cleanest Inland Body of Water in Region IV, Makakalikasang Bayan- Gintong Parangal sa Lungsod ng Puerto Princesa, and Most Active Proponent of Coastal Clean-Up. It has also been recognized as the “Philippines Sports Tourism Government Organizer of the Year 2023.” END
