Philippines Advances Key Interests at 2024 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Peru

LIMA 25 November 2024 – The Philippines successfully participated in the APEC 2024 Economic Leaders' Week (AELW) held from November 10 to 16, 2024, in Lima, Peru. The AELW gathered leaders, ministers, and senior officials from the 21 APEC member-economies to discuss and advance initiatives aimed at fostering inclusive growth, economic cooperation, and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Leading the Philippine delegation from the Department of Foreign Affairs was the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and International Economic Relations, Hon. Charles C. Jose, who played a pivotal role in advocating the country's key interests during the Senior Official and Ministerial-level discussions.

Undersecretary Jose continued the country’s efforts toward strengthening open, free and inclusive trade for economic growth that benefits all stakeholders as well as promoting the transition of informal economic actors to the formal economy through innovation and digitalization.

Undersecretary Jose emphasized that the APEC Economic Leaders' Week provided a valuable platform for the Philippines to engage with our regional partners and advance our shared goals of inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The Philippine APEC National Secretariat also coordinated with the Philippine Embassy in Santiago, Chile, which has jurisdiction over Peru, to provide administrative and logistical support to the whole Philippine delegation led by the President’s Special Envoy, Secretary for Trade and Industry, Hon. Ma. Cristina Aldeguer-Roque.

For the year 2025, the Republic of Korea will host the APEC meetings following its theme of “Connect. Innovate. Prosper.” to showcase its commitment to environmental leadership, technological advancements, and economic growth during its APEC hosting year. END
