Foreign Service Institute Training and Research Outreach Program Focuses on Filipino Migrant Workers

FSI and DMW Officials Exchanged Perspectives on Filipino Migrant Workers.

MANILA 29 November 2024 – In the most recent research iteration of its Training and Research Outreach (TRO) Program, a delegation from the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) headed by Director-General Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III received a briefing on 11 November 2024 from officials of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) led by Director Cesar Chavez, Jr.

During the briefing, researchers from the FSI’s Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies (CIRSS) discussed with DMW experts about the current circumstances, challenges, and opportunities for Filipino migrant workers. The conversation noted new opportunities for Filipino professionals in the field of education and information technology, among others.

Fernandez was accompanied by CIRSS Assistant Director Eileene M. Arquiza, Migration Studies Section Chief Anna Katerina C. Fulgencio, Middle Power Studies Section’s Salvador Francis Isaiah Deapera, and AI Diplomacy Studies Section’s Emil Miah Damian.

The research component of the TRO Program is envisioned to facilitate alignment and validation by researchers from CIRSS of their theoretical data with information from the field. The briefing given by DMW officials is the third activity implemented under the TRO Program after those with the Philippine Embassy in Beijing and the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

FSI is the training and research agency attached to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). Its research mandate is tasked to CIRSS, while training responsibilities are shouldered by its Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy (CPRSD). END
