Secretary Manalo and Japanese Counterpart Iwaya Takeshi Discuss PH-JP Strategic Partnership on the Sidelines of G7 Meeting

Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo and the Japanese Foreign Minister held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Expanded Session of the G7 Foreign Ministerial Meeting on 26 November 2024 in Italy. 

FIUGGI 29 November 2024 - Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo held a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi on the sidelines of the Expanded Session of the Group of Seven (G7) Foreign Ministerial Meeting (FMM) in Fiuggi, Italy. 

The two Ministers took stock of recent milestones in Philippines-Japan bilateral relations, such as in economic development, maritime cooperation and defense and security. They also discussed new areas of cooperation, such as disaster preparedness through early warning. 

Secretary Manalo expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support for the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea. 

They looked forward to working together towards a stronger Strategic Partnership between the Philippines and Japan. 

The bilateral meeting was the first in-person meeting between Secretary Manalo and Foreign Minister Iwaya, who was appointed to the post last 01 October 2024. It followed through on matters discussed during the phone conversation between the two Ministers last month. END
