MANILA 05 December 2024 – The Philippines and Morocco renewed their commitment to enhance cooperation in various areas of bilateral relations during the Third Philippines-Morocco Bilateral Consultations Meeting held at Seda Manila Bay on 29 November 2024.

The Philippine Delegation to the meeting was headed by DFA Assistant Secretary for Middle East and African Affairs Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, while the Moroccan Delegation was headed by His Excellency Omar Kadiri, Director for Asian Affairs and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco.

During the meeting, both delegations discussed various areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade, tourism, education, environment, consular cooperation, labor cooperation and maritime cooperation. They also exchanged views on important regional and international issues.

Both delegations, in particular, underscored the importance of the consultation meeting, in view of next year’s celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Morocco.

The consultation meeting was prefaced by a courtesy call by Assistant Minister Kadiri on Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo.

The Philippines and Morocco formally established diplomatic relations on 10 April 1975. The Philippines re-opened its embassy in Rabat in 2020, more than 30 years after it was closed. Morocco, meanwhile, opened its embassy in Manila in 2018. END
