Philippines and Japan Sign Second Official Security Assistance (OSA) Agreement for the Department of National Defense

MANILA 05 December 2024 – Secretary for Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique A. Manalo and Japanese Ambassador ENDO Kazuya signed and exchanged the diplomatic notes pertaining to the “Official Security Assistance (OSA) FY 2024” from Japan for the Department of National Defense - Armed Forces of the Philippines (DND-AFP) at a ceremony held today at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila.
The said OSA has a total amount of JPY1,600,000,000, covering provision of coastal radar systems, automatic rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIB) and other equipment. It will support DND and AFP’s efforts in securing the Philippines and improving the country’s capabilities to deter threats to peace, stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Philippines and Japan have a strengthened Strategic Partnership. The above assistance reflects the two countries’ shared commitment to maritime stability and regional peace. It is the second OSA of Japan for the Philippines.
The Philippines is one of the first recipients of Japan’s OSA, launched in 2023. END
