Foreign Service Institute Welcomes Korea Unification Officials
The ROK delegation discussed the August 15 Unification Doctrine during the courtesy visit.
PASAY 16 December 2024 - The Foreign Service Institute (FSI), led by Director General Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III, received officials from the Ministry of Unification of the Republic of Korea headed by Director General Hwang Seunghee last 4 December 2024. Fernandez was accompanied by Executive Director Lolita B. Capco, Acting Director Rhodora Joaquin, and senior researchers from the Institute’s Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies (CIRSS).
Hwang was joined by Deputy Director Park Eunyoung, Senior Manager Lee Heon Woo, Professor Choo Jae Woo from the Committee for Future Planning of Unification, Director Lee Hanbyeol from the Improving North Korean Human Rights Center, and Second Secretary Huh Sung Ho of the ROK Embassy in Manila.
The Korean delegation presented the August 15 Unification Doctrine: A Unified Korea based on Freedom, Peace, and Prosperity, which embodies the current policy of the ROK Government in relation to their reunification effort directed towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). They emphasized their determination to raise awareness on the situation in the Peninsula and to sustain the interest of ROK citizens to work for the reunification of the two Koreas.
The Foreign Service Institute is the research and training office of the Department of Foreign Affairs, created under Presidential Decree No. 1060 and whose remit was expanded by Republic Act No. 7157.
The FSI Board is chaired by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, with the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Director General of FSI, President of the University of the Philippines (UP), and President of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) as members. END
