Foreign Service Institute Conducts Second Cultural Visit to Cavite

FSI personnel with Director General Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III at the facade of Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite

MANILA 26 December 2024 - On 6 December 2024, the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) conducted its second educational visit by travelling to the Province of Cavite. With 43 FSI personnel participating, the tour was aimed at providing Institute personnel with a unique and insightful exploration of the Philippines’ rich historical heritage, while enhancing their cultural intelligence and contributing to their professional development. This immersive activity is expected to capacitate FSI personnel as they lead training sessions.

In Kawit, the participants visited the Aguinaldo Shrine where the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain was made on 12 June 1898. The town of Maragondon introduced the participants to the Museo ng Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio (also known as the Bonifacio Trial House) and Museo Baldomero Aguinaldo (Baldomero Aguinaldo Shrine), which carries historical markers from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).

During the visit, the participants likewise took part in an handicraft session offered by the Likhang Maragondon, a micro-enterprise established to generate employment for local residents who manufactured bamboo handicrafts for sale to the general public.

This activity is the second installment of the Human Resource Management Section’s Cultural Visits under its Learning and Development Programs for FSI personnel lined-up for the Year 2024. The first one was held earlier this year in Intramuros Manila and the National Museum of the Philippines (Fine Arts and Anthropology Building) on 1 March 2024.

The Foreign Service Institute is the training and research office of the Department of Foreign Affairs. It was created under Presidential Decree No. 1060 and its role was expanded under Republic Act No. 7157. END
