DFA Hosts Future Global Leaders at Harvard Model UN Manila

MANILA 26 March 2025 — The DFA welcomed over 150 student delegates from 50 countries to its temporary headquarters at the Double Dragon Tower for the Harvard Model United Nations Manila. This engagement provided young leaders with insights into the Philippines’ diplomatic priorities and its contributions to the United Nations.

Undersecretary Jesus “Gary” Domingo and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the DFA’s UN and International Organizations office (UNIO), Mr. Ambrosio Brian F. Enciso III led discussions on Philippine foreign policy, highlighting the country’s strategic approach to global diplomacy. Undersecretary Domingo emphasized the Philippines' steadfast commitment to multilateralism, strong alliances, and principled diplomacy. He also underscored the country’s legacy at the United Nations since 1945, particularly its leadership in advancing human rights, peacekeeping missions, and climate action.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Enciso outlined the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (2027-2028), presenting the country’s vision as a Partner, Pathfinder, and Peacemaker. He reiterated the country’s commitment to contribute to global security efforts, particularly in counterterrorism, disaster resilience, maritime security, and climate change mitigation. He emphasized that the Philippines, with its steadfast commitment to multilateralism, is well-positioned to serve on the Security Council.

An interactive session allowed delegates to engage with DFA officials on pressing global issues, including human rights, regional security, and sustainable development. This dialogue reinforced the Philippines’ commitment to fostering international cooperation and addressing emerging global challenges.
