FSI Conducts Training and Research Outreach Program in DFA CO Baguio

MANILA 31 March 2025 — The Foreign Service Institute (FSI), through its Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy (CPRSD), conducted its first Training and Research Outreach (TRO) Program session this 2025 for the personnel of the Consular Office (CO) of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Baguio. The training was held on 3 March 2025.

The FSI training team shared their expertise on Basic Written Communication and Maximizing Social Media for Information Dissemination with 15 personnel from CO Baguio.

Prof. Evelyn O. Katigbak, CPRSD Director, discussed the fundamentals for effective written communication emphasizing the “rule of clarity.” Further, she highlighted how learning the basics of well-written correspondence and reports is crucial in the daily activities of public servants.

For the session on Maximizing Social Media for Information Dissemination, CPRSD’s Core Programs Section Training Officer Arielle Faith R. Villareal shared how CO personnel can improve the reach of the social media posts of DFA by engaging with announcements that are important to the CO.

At the end of each session, mini-workshop activities were conducted for the participants to apply their learning into application.

The TRO Program was initiated by FSI to respond to the training requests of consular offices. This program aims to provide fundamental knowledge and understanding on various topics deemed significant and relevant in the wide-ranging consular work of CO personnel.

FSI is the training and research agency attached to DFA. It was created under Presidential Decree No. 1060 and its remit was expanded by Republic Act No. 7157. The FSI Board is chaired by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, with the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Director General of FSI, President of the University of the Philippines, and the President of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) as members.
