National Defense Undersecretary Discusses Typhon Missile System at FSI

MANILA 07 May 2025 — To keep researchers abreast of the current developments on issues affecting foreign policy and national security, the Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies (CIRSS) of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) hosted its third “Breakfast Conversation” on 25 April 2025 featuring National Defense Undersecretary for Strategic Assessment and Planning Ignacio B. Madriaga of the Department of National Defense (DND).

Undersecretary Madriaga discussed the strategic value of ground-based missile systems like the Typhon Mid-Range Capability (MRC), how these weapons alter regional dynamics, and the impact on the Philippines’ deterrence and defense signaling.

The forum was attended by personnel from FSI and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). 

Breakfast Conversations with CIRSS is an informal dialogue on the various thematic research areas of FSI. The Conversations serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and synergizing efforts with the Institute’s researchers, DFA personnel, and other stakeholders. END
