DFA Cooperatives Celebrate International Day of Cooperatives with Environmental Initiatives
LEGAZPI CITY 09 July 2025 — On 05 July 2025, the Regional Consular Office Bicol Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (RCOBEMPC) and the Department of Foreign Affairs Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DFAMPC) joined the global celebration of the International Day of Cooperatives under the theme, "Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World”.
This year's celebration holds special significance as it coincides with the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives (IYC2025), which underscore the vital role of cooperatives in fostering inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities worldwide.
To mark this significant occasion and underscore their commitment to impactful change, both RCOBEMPC and DFAMPC undertook vital environmental initiatives. The cooperatives conducted a tree-planting activity in Brgy. Bariis, Legazpi City. A total of 100 fruit-bearing trees such as cacao, rambutan, and mangoes were planted. This initiative aims to promote environmental stewardship, enhance local biodiversity, and support agricultural livelihoods—aligning with the global call for sustainable development.
Additionally, the cooperatives organized a clean-up drive at Karangahan Falls in Brgy. Banquerohan, Legazpi City. Volunteers diligently collected plastic garbage and other debris from the vicinity of the waterfalls. This effort not only preserves the natural beauty of the area but also protects local ecosystems and advocates responsible practices, embodying the cooperative spirit of community well-being and healthier environment.
These activities by RCOBEMPC and DFAMPC exemplify how cooperatives are more than just economic entities; they are powerful agents of positive change, actively contributing to environmental sustainability and community development. Through collaborative efforts, they actively contribute to environmental sustainability and community improvement, working towards a more sustainable future for all. END
