FSI Facilitates Protocol Training for Commission on Human Rights

MANILA 11 July 2025 — The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy facilitated the Seminar-Workshop on Protocol and Social Graces for personnel of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) from 03 to 04 July 2025 at the CHR Training Facility in Quezon City.
The Seminar-Workshop was attended by personnel who are members of the CHR Committee on Protocol, as well as those who interact with local and international partners and counterparts. The training aimed to strengthen their skills by building on their basic knowledge of protocol and etiquette.
Ms. Karen Loren Agustin-Ostrea, Etiquette and Image Consultant and Director of Global Image Management, Inc. delivered a comprehensive lecture on the ABCs of image (Appearance, Behavior, and Communication). She emphasized the importance of these 3 key elements in developing a confident, strong, and effective professional image. She provided guidance on proper attire, formal dinners, and public speaking.
Retired Ambassador Marciano A. Paynor, Jr., a recognized authority in diplomatic protocol and currently ASEAN 2026 Hosting Consultant, provided an overview of the history, sources, and scope of protocol. Drawing from his extensive experience as a consultant and member of organizing committees for Philippine-hosted international conferences and ceremonies, he shared practical guidelines in handling official dignitaries including giving directions, ushering techniques, and the application of diplomatic etiquette and decorum during formal events.
