13 May 2015 – Preparations are in full swing with as APEC gears up to host the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM) in November. 2015 is Philippines’ hosting year for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and other related meetings.

Following the initial Diplomatic Liaison Team Coordination Meeting hosted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) last November 14, 2014, the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Office of Intelligence and Security (OIS) hosted the 2nd Diplomatic Liaison Team Coordination Meeting on May 04 at the Bulwagang Apolinario Mabini, DFA Main Bldg. Pasay City. The objective of the meeting was to update the APEC member economies on the security arrangements that are being made on the hosting of the 2nd Senior Officials Meeting (SOM2) and the Meeting with the Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT), which are both to be held in arguably one of the most popular beach vacation hotspots in the world, Boracay.

The meeting, moderated by Ryan Carlo L. Cordero of OIS, started with a briefing conducted by the Police Director Ricardo C. Marquez, together with his assistants, Police Senior Superintendent Mario Reyes and Police Senior Superintendent Felipe Maraggun on the security measures that are being implemented for the remaining APEC Meetings. Representatives from the member economies, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, the People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Peru, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and the US, together with Police Director Marquez and OIS Special Assistant Danilo T. Ibayan, tackled issues that have been identified in the conduct of the previous meetings held in Tagaytay and Pampanga.

In the meetings’ conclusion, representatives of the member economies and the panel arrived at resolutions to key areas of action stated and identified in the course of the meeting. END
