26 May 2015 - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reaffirmed its commitment to provide continued legal and consular assistance to a Filipino household service worker who was sentenced to death last 20 May 2015 by the Al Ain Court of First Instance for stabbing to death her Emirati employer who attempted to rape her.

“The DFA, through the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, has been assisting Jennifer Dalquez since January 2015 when we learned of her situation,” said DFA Undersecretary Jesus I. Yabes who heads the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA).

Among the services provided by DFA to Ms. Dalquez is the hiring of a lawyer to defend her during the trial. Personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi also conduct regular jail visitation to look into her personal needs and informing her of developments concerning her case.

The Embassy will continue to closely monitor the case of Ms. Dalquez and extend all the appropriate assistance. END
