09 February 2016 - The Philippines and the Islamic Republic of Iran successfully concluded the Sixth Joint Consular Consultation Meeting (6th PH-Iran JCCM) in Tehran, Iran on January 31. The consultation covered wide-ranging issues from intelligence cooperation, judicial agreements, consular notification, exchange/swapping of prisoners, visa matters, and sports cooperation.

Iran Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Ghasghavi welcomed the Philippine delegation and expressed optimism in moving the PH-Iran bilateral relations forward.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns Rafael E. Seguis stated that the holding of the 6th PH-Iran JCCM reflects renewed enthusiasm of the Philippines in taking its bilateral relations to new heights, recognizing that a strong consular cooperation between the two countries is key to building a robust foundation for enhanced cooperation in other fields.

Undersecretary Seguis led the Philippine delegation composed of representatives from the Office of the Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns (OUCSCC); the Office of Consular Affairs (OCA); the Office of the Middle East and African Affairs (OMEAA); the National Intelligence and Coordinating Agency (NICA) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).  Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Ghasghavi led the Iranian delegation who was also joined by representatives from various offices in the Iranian Foreign Ministry and police department.
