07 April 2016 - Eighteen (18) of the brightest high school students from across the country will gather and compete at the 7th ASEAN Quiz National Competition at historic St. Mary’s College Auditorium in Quezon City on April 07.
The participants, ages 15 to 17 years old, will vie for top spots in a bid to represent the Philippines at the bigger competition stage in Lao PDR, this year’s host of the 7th ASEAN Quiz Regional Competition.
The Philippines is a consistent winner in the biennial event, copping 1st place in the individual delegates category in both 2002 (Thailand) and in 2004 (Brunei Darussalam), and finished 2nd in 2006 (Malaysia). Its brilliance was unmatched in the country competition, winning the gold consecutively in 2009 (Philippines) and in 2012 (Cambodia), and captured the silver in 2014 (Viet Nam).
At stake in this year’s national tilt are cash prizes and scholarship grants for the winning students, trophies of honor for their schools, and recognition plaques for the winners’ coaches.
The ASEAN Quiz is a project of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee on Culture and Information (COCI), which aims to foster the spirit of healthy competition and friendships among ASEAN youth.
Leading the project’s implementation is the government TV facility People’s Television Network, Inc. (PTV) in coordination with the Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs, the Philippine Information Agency, the Philippine Broadcasting Service, and the Presidential Communications Operations Office.
PTV will broadcast the contest nationwide on April 23rd (with replay on April 30th) at 2:30PM. END
