ASEAN Committee in Amman Celebrates 56th Anniversary with Engaging Events

AMMAN 24 August 2023 – The ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) marked the 56th ASEAN anniversary with a series of engaging activities aimed at enhancing awareness and understanding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Middle East region. The celebrations included an insightful ASEAN Forum in partnership with the University of Petra and a symbolic ASEAN Flag-Hoisting Ceremony, bringing together distinguished guests and representatives from ASEAN member-missions in Amman.

On August 15, 2023, the ACA, in collaboration with the University of Petra, organized a thought-provoking ASEAN Forum titled "ASEAN and the Middle East: Potentials and Opportunities." The main event, held at the university's auditorium, brought together a diverse audience eager to delve into the dynamic relationship between ASEAN and the Middle East.

The forum provided a platform for open discussions and exchanges of ideas between panelists, which included His Excellency Ade Padmo Sarwono, the Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan, and esteemed professors from the University. This event not only allowed for in-depth insights into the opportunities for collaboration between ASEAN and the Middle East but also aimed to raise awareness and foster better understanding of ASEAN among Jordanian students and the local community.

Continuing the commemorative celebrations, the ASEAN Flag-Hoisting Ceremony took place on August 20, 2023, at the residence of His Excellency Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, the Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan and current ACA Chairman. The event was attended by more than 50 distinguished guests, including representatives from various ASEAN member-missions in Amman, namely Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

The flag-hoisting ceremony served as a powerful symbol of unity and cooperation among ASEAN member countries. It showcased the commitment of these nations to maintain strong diplomatic ties and served as a testament to the shared values and aspirations of the ASEAN community.
