ASEAN Committee in Rabat Commemorates 57th Founding Anniversary of ASEAN

RABAT 09 August 2024 – The ASEAN Committee in Rabat (ACR) under the Chairmanship of the Republic of Indonesia, commemorated the 57th founding anniversary of ASEAN through a flag raising ceremony held last August 8 at the Indonesian Embassy in Rabat.

Philippine Ambassador to Morocco Leslie J. Baja delivered the welcome remarks on behalf of Indonesian Ambassador and ACR Chairperson H.E. Hasrul Azwar. Ambassador Baja highlighted the achievements of ASEAN in the past 57 years, underscoring how the organization has continually espoused amity and cooperation, principles of sovereignty, equality, territorial integrity, non-interference, consensus and unity amidst diversity. He also enumerated important milestones in the history of ASEAN in the political, economic, and socio-cultural spheres. Recognizing the important role of collaboration among like-minded states, Ambassador Baja conveyed ASEAN’s hope to further strengthen its relations with external partners, especially Morocco as its newest sectoral dialogue partner.

The Ambassador’s speech was immediately followed by a cake-cutting ceremony led by the ACR Heads of Missions and a tea reception featuring traditional delicacies from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The ACR was established in 2015 and is one of the 55 ASEAN Committees in Third Countries and International Organizations (ACTCs). The ACR is composed of six (6) ASEAN Member States with resident missions in Rabat. The Chairmanship rotates semi-annually among the ASEAN Ambassadors. END.
