Trade, Climate Change, and PH Kundiman Featured at 57th ASEAN Day Celebration in Prague

PRAGUE 16 August 2024 – Philippine kundiman took center stage when Ms. Mary Whilssy Hila performed “Sa Kabukiran” (In the Farmland) at the 57th ASEAN Day celebration at the gardens of Hartigovský Palac in Prague, Czech Republic on 08 August 2024. 

 

The event is organized by the ASEAN Committee in Prague (ACP) and brought together more than a hundred guests from the diplomatic corps, Czech government and parliament, and major stakeholders of the ASEAN member states.

 

Guests enjoyed the best of cultural performances and were feted to authentic ASEAN cuisine, with Filipino cuisines such as chicken adobo skewers, ensaladang talong (Filipino roasted eggplant salad), and maja blanca (coconut pudding).

 

In her remarks, Vice President of the Czech Senate Ms. Jitka Seitlová reaffirmed the strong cooperation between ASEAN and the Czech Republic and expressed her desire to further promote cooperation in trade and to find solutions to the climate crisis that affect most of the ASEAN member states. 

 

“In 2020, we, in the Czech Republic, were pleased to welcome the conclusion of the Strategic Partnership between the EU and ASEAN. We also firmly believe that the EU-ASEAN free trade agreement negotiations will be successfully completed and will be based on the relationship of two fully equal partners and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said Ms. Seitlová.

 

Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Eduard Hulicius also highlighted trade and economics as the major pillars of cooperation between the Czech Republic and ASEAN. He reminded the guests that the “Czech Government remains focused on the area; our Indo-Pacific Strategy cooperation is implemented, and we have managed to significantly intensify our relations with the region.”
