PHL Embassy Supports ASEAN Traditional Dance Competition in Myanmar

Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Eduardo E. Kapunan delivers welcome remarks in the 2017 ASEAN Traditional Dance Competition in Myanmar
08 August 2017 – To commemorate ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary, the Union Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar organized the 2017 ASEAN Traditional Dance Competition at the National Theatre in Yangon on 07 August 2017. The Competition was attended by the Ambassadors of all ASEAN Member States in Myanmar.
Ambassador Eduardo E. Kapunan Jr. delivered the welcome remarks as representative of this year’s ASEAN Chair. He highlighted the importance of Culture in ASEAN Community Building. Meanwhile, Myanmar Union Minister for Culture and Religious Affairs Thura U Aung Ko reaffirmed Myanmar’s support to ASEAN’s Socio-Cultural Community where he is the main Focal Person.
The Dance Competition featured a traditional dance from each of ASEAN’s Ten (10) Members States. A representative from the National University of Arts and Culture Mandalay, National University of Arts and Culture Yangon, and the State High School for Arts and Culture Yangon and Mandalay competed in their interpretation of each of the Dances. Cariñosa was chosen by the Organizers to represent the Philippines in the Competition.
