11 August 2017 MOSCOW — The ASEAN Centre in the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) University, in collaboration with the ASEAN Moscow Committee (AMC), is organizing an Essay Writing Competition in commemoration of the 50thfounding anniversary of ASEAN.
Dr. Victor Sumsky, Director of the ASEAN Centre in MGIMO University, announced the launch of the competition during the ASEAN Day reception held on 8 August 2017 at the Philippine Embassy in Moscow.
With the theme “ASEAN@50: Achievements, Challenges, and New Opportunities for Cooperation”, the essay writing contest is open to university students in Russia and the ten ASEAN Member countries.
“This essay competition is a good way to raise the level of awareness among the youth from both sides on the significant contribution of ASEAN to regional peace, stability, and progress in the past fifty years. Engaging the youth is key to ensure ASEAN’s continued relevance and longevity. This is why the AMC and the ASEAN Centre is doing this,” Ambassador Sorreta stressed.
Entries should be submitted to the ASEAN Centre by 30 October 2017. They will be assessed by representatives from the ASEAN Centre and AMC in the month of November. The awarding ceremony is scheduled in December 2017 at the ASEAN Centre in MGIMO University. Winners from the Russian and ASEAN sides will be sponsored by the ASEAN Center to a weeklong familiarization visit to Jakarta and Moscow, respectively, in 2018.
