11 August 2017 LA UNION — The officers and staff of RCO La Union, led by its Officer-in-Charge Estellita V. Casuga, joined the officials and constituents of the Municipality of Bauang, La Union, spearheaded by its Municipal Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. de Guzman III in the simultaneous ASEAN Landmarks Lighting on 08 August 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in Bauang, La Union.

Before ASEAN Landmarks Lighting there was a short program wherein OIC Casuga mentioned the importance of the ASEAN Landmark Lighting to commemorate the Golden Anniversary of ASEAN.  She also said that there are 70 municipalities and cities nationwide and the 10 ASEAN members-states will also have their own version of ASEAN Landmark Lighting simultaneously at 7:00 p.m. on 08 August 2017.

OIC Casuga also read the message of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN under 2017 Philippine Chairmanship on ASEAN.

Regional Director Jennilyne C. Role of the Philippine Information Agency Region 1 also gave an overview on ASEAN and Rev. Fr. Raymund Ronald Chan, Parish Priest of Sts. Peter and Paul, presented the history of the establishment of Sts. Peter and Paul Church.  Mayor de Guzman extended his gratitude to President Duterte for choosing Bauang, La Union as one of the municipalities in the establishment of ASEAN Landmark Lighting as well as to all the organizers of the event for making this momentous event a success.

At 7:00 p.m., Mayor de Guzman and Rev. Fr. Chan lighted the ASEAN Lantern and the Island Marker located at the intersection going to Baguio City, Manila and Ilocos Region, simultaneously with the lighting of the Bauang Municipal Hall, Bauang Welcome Arc and Sts. Peter and Paul where the Bauang Church San Pedro Bell has returned home after more than 100 years.

Rev. Fr. Chan blessed and inaugurated the ASEAN Lantern and the Bauang Island Marker before the countdown to the ASEAN Landmark Lighting.

Fireworks display and more cultural presentations followed after the ASEAN Landmarks Lighting. END
