PHL Consulate General in San Francisco Commemorates 50th Founding Anniversary of ASEAN
11 August 2017 SAN FRANCISCO — In commemoration of the 50th Founding Anniversary of ASEAN, Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. read a message from President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on the Philippines’ chairmanship and celebration of the Anniversary, where he reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to "an ASEAN that works for positive change in the lives of our people - an ASEAN that is proactive, relevant and transformative," and resolved to "do all we can for an ASEAN that is rules-based, people-centered and people-oriented."
The Philippine Consulate General held a Flag Ceremony on Monday, 07 August 2017, at the Lobby of the Philippine Center, attended by officers and staff of the Consulate and attached agencies, as well as members of the Filipino-American Community.
During the Flag Ceremony, the Philippine National Anthem and the ASEAN Anthem were sung, followed by Post reading the message of President Rodrigo R. Duterte in commemoration of the Anniversary. A video of the ASEAN anniversary, as well as the country profiles of the ten ASEANS nations were played in a loop at the Center’s video wall and the 2nd Floor Information Section, to bring greater awareness about ASEAN and the Philippines’ Chairmanship of the regional grouping.
