ASEAN Committee in Amman Celebrates ASEAN’s Golden Anniversary
09 August 2017, Amman - The ASEAN Committee in Amman, headed by its current Chairman Ambassador Andy Rachmianto of Indonesia, successfully celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Association of South East Asian Nations on August 08 at Amman PE’s Al Hussein Cultural Center. Around 400 guests attended the event which was composed mainly of the diplomatic corps of Jordan, Jordanian government officials, Jordanian businessmen, and the ASEAN community in Jordan. The occasion was graced by Jordan’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mrs. Lina Annab.
The celebration included musical numbers from the five resident ASEAN Embassies in Jordan -- Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand, a mini-exhibition of each country’s cultural items, products, and tourism destinations, and a reception where each country’s dishes were served.
For the Philippine performance, the Philippine Embassy in Amman, in partnership with the Filipino community in Jordan sang two Filipino folk songs, “Sa Libis ng Nayon” and “Sitsiritsit Alibangbang”, while other performers from FilCom portrayed the ordinary life of a Filipino family living in the countryside.
In her message, Minister Lina Annab highlighted the strong relations between Jordan and ASEAN-member countries that should be further strengthened through concrete projects in tourism cooperation, cultural exchanges, and trade. Jordan values its relations with ASEAN-member countries and recognizes ASEAN’s importance as a regional organization in the global arena, Minister Annab added. END
