ASEAN Committee in Brasilia Celebrates Golden Jubilee of ASEAN

31 August 2017 BRASILIA – The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia, together with the other members of the ASEAN Committee in Brasilia (ACB), celebrated the 50th Founding Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in a simple ceremony held at the Embassy of Thailand on 29 August 2017.

The Guest of Honor was Ambassador Marcos Bezerra Abbott Galvão, Secretary General of Brazil’s Ministry of External Relations, who commended ASEAN for showing the world that tolerance and dialogue are the foundations of an enduring partnership. The Secretary General also underscored the need for the further strengthening of relations between ASEAN and MERCOSUR, the sub-regional bloc of which Brazil is the current Pro-Tempore President.

At the end of the program, around 150 guests were treated to various ASEAN dishes including the Philippines’ Siopao and Brazo de Mercedes. END
