Consulates Hold Bowling Match to Mark 50th ASEAN Jubilee in HK
The officers, staff and families of 10 ASEAN consulates general gather for a friendly bowling tournament to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN at the South China Athletic Association (SCAA) Bowling Centre on 12 August 2017.
HONG KONG, 12 August 2017 – The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong organized a friendly bowling tournament for the officers, staff and families of 10 consulates general to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN at the South China Athletic Association (SCAA) Bowling Centre on 12 August 2017.
Eighty officers and staff, including the consuls general of Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines, played in 20 mixed teams for the adult tournament, while 16 children aged between 7 and 20 from six ASEAN consulates general were distributed in four teams for their own competition in the junior category.
Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong SAR Bernardita L. Catalla lauded the high level of participation shown by the ASEAN consulates general, with the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Malaysia all fielding more than a dozen players for both adults and junior categories.
She also welcomed five new consuls general who had arrived in the last four months: Sia Ai Ching of Brunei, Sin Siya of Cambodia, Tri Tharyat of Indonesia, Wunna Han of Myanmar, and Asi Mamanee of Thailand.
After two games each, three best individual scorers among the male, female, and junior players bagged gold, silver and bronze trophies, while the four members of the top three scoring teams were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals.
While not an ASEAN dialogue partner country, Hong Kong is increasing its engagement of ASEAN especially after the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community, focusing on its role as a super-connector with the Chinese mainland.
ASEAN last held a family day celebration at the Indonesian consul general’s official residence in February 2016. END
