PH Consulate General in Sydney Commemorates ASEAN’s 50th Founding Anniversary with the 2017 ASEAN Bowling Friendly Games

The officers, staff and family members of the Consulates General of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia who took part in the 2017 ASEAN Bowling Tournament.
11 September 2017, Sydney – On 5 August 2017, the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney organized an ASEAN Bowling Tournament at the Ten Pin City Bowling Center in Lidcombe, New South Wales, in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN on 8 August 2017.
Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis welcomed Consul Zani Murnia of the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney and Consul and Head of Post Mohd Khalil Zaiyany Sumiran of the Malaysian Consulate in Sydney and their officers, staff and family members to the friendly bowling competition. Indonesia had 4 teams, while Malaysia and the Philippines had 3 teams each.
Consul General Louis thanked the teams from Indonesia and Malaysia for their participation and support for the tournament. She handed ASEAN Commemorative Coins to the heads of the Indonesian and Malaysian contingent.
In her message at the opening ceremony of the tournament, Consul General Louis emphasized the importance of ASEAN and the value of unity among its members, and expressed the hope that the friendly games will further promote camaraderie among the ASEAN Consulates General in Sydney. As the ASEAN celebrates its 50th Founding Anniversary under the Philippine Chairmanship of ASEAN, Consul General Louis and her counterparts from Indonesia and Malaysia at the event expressed their wish that the ASEAN community will continue to grow and prosper.
There are five ASEAN-member countries that have Consular Missions in Sydney however, Thailand and Vietnam were not able to participate, but sent their best wishes for the success of the tournament.
Notable among the special awards given is the Youngest Player Winner, 8-year old Ralph Villegas from Philippines Team 3 who garnered a total score of 406. Team 3 of the Philippine Consulate was the overall champion composed of the Villegas family, Russell Villegas, Protocol and Passport Officer, wife, Angie, and sons Renz and Ralph. Renz was also the winner for the High Game and High Series for male, while Angie was the winner for High Game and High Series for female. END
