20 December 2017 BRUNEI DARUSSALAM — The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam celebrated a year-end gathering with the representatives from the Filipino Community dubbed as “Araw ng Pasasalamat: Pasko sa Pasuguan 2017” at the Chancery on December 15. The event was attended by almost two hundred (200) guests.
The highlights of the event were the contests for the Filipino Community organizations, the “Recycled Parol” and the “Pinoy Caroling.” The “Recycled Parol” encouraged the organizations to exhibit Filipino artistry and ingenuity through the use of recycled materials, while the “Pinoy Caroling” imbibed the Christmas spirit through the participants’ renditions of “Sa Araw ng Pasko,” the contest piece, and another OPM Christmas song of their choice.
Brunei International Guardians Brotherhood Incorporated (BIGBI) bested 8 other participants in the “Recycled Parol” and Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) was declared the winner for the “Pinoy Caroling” among 4 choral groups.
All the entries to the “Recycled Parol” were prominently displayed in the Consular Section during the event. They added to the overall festive trimmings of the Chancery, which projected the Christmas atmosphere in the PHL.
In his message, Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre zeroed in on sharing joy as an authentic Filipino trait during the Christmas season. He also thanked the Filipino Community organizations for their continued support to the Embassy’s programs and activities
After the event, the guests were treated to Philippine traditional delicacies, such as pancit guisado, empanada, sapin-sapin, maja blanca, puto, turon, sago’t gulaman, and the all-time favorite Philippine ice-cream, Magnolia, among others.
The attendees expressed their appreciation to the Embassy for the event, which, they claimed, reminded them of Christmas celebrations in their homes in PHL. END
