SF Consulate and SF Bay Area Ateneans Hold Christmas Party for Seniors
27 December 2017 SAN FRANCISCO — In support of the San Francisco Philippine Consulate General’s movement to Spark*Connect*Empower* the Community and to reach out to the seniors in the Bay Area, the Consulate partnered with the San Francisco Bay Area Ateneans and the Pilipino Senior Resource Center (PSRC) and threw an early Christmas party for Filipino-American seniors, most of whom were members of PSRC, Canon Kip and Westbay. This year’s party was headed by Madame Mariza Bensurto, who worked with the SF Bay Area Ateneans, who donated gifts and raffle prizes for the seniors.
Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. welcomed 135 seniors to the Kalayaan Hall for the second year in a row. The Consul General informed them that the Consulate was open for the seniors if they needed any assistance. He thanked volunteers from Ateneo and UP for giving their time and resources to the seniors, and ensuring that the event is made memorable for them.
In the spirit of Christmas, several Filipino establishments also provided food for the seniors. Madame Bensurto and Consul Carlyn A. Monastrial served as emcees for the event, leading the seniors through games, singing and dancing. Apart from the raffle, the seniors were presented a seminar on personal safety by PNP Attache Col. Eric Noble. Post also took the opportunity to inform the seniors of the Department of Tourism’s Bring Home A Friend campaign.
The Pilipino Senior Resource Center (PSRC) is an organization dedicated to serving the Filipino seniors in San Francisco and the Bay Area through the Seniors Program, Breast Cancer Program, and Parental Hotline. END
