YANGON 18 January 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Yangon successfully held Himig Pasko: A Philippine Christmas Concert featuring A Cappella Manila on 14 December 2018 at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon.

In her welcome remarks, Chargé d' Affaires, a.i. Ms. Stephanie Alexis Cruz explained the importance of Christmas in the Philippines and how Filipinos pride themselves in celebrating the longest Christmas season in the world. She shared some Filipino Christmas traditions including how Filipino children love to go around the neighborhood singing Christmas carols, having Christmas goodies and receiving gifts.

CDA Cruz shared that the Embassy wanted to show the Myanmar people a glimpse of the Philippine Christmas season through a musical performance by A Cappella Manila.

A Cappella Manila, under the tutelage of Professor Rodel Bugarin, is a vocal ensemble of young professionals from the Philippines brought to Myanmar to serenade the Diplomatic Corps and the Myanmar audience with timeless Filipino Christmas carols.

With the mission of promoting peace and goodwill through their brand of music, the chorale group continuously hones the talent of its members through exposure to different types of chorale singing with the group’s primary focus being a cappella singing.

The concert was attended by more than 500 guests composed of members of the Diplomatic Corps, students from various Myanmar public schools, international schools and universities, Myanmar nationals, and Filipino and expatriate communities in Myanmar. END
