PHL Embassy in Myanmar Celebrates 119th Anniversary of Philippine Independence Day

23 June 2017 YANGON — Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Eduardo E. Kapunan, Jr. led the celebration of the 119th Anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence on June 12 at the Novotel Yangon Max.
Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Aung Thu and his spouse were the guests of honor representing the Myanmar government at the event.
Ambassador Kapunan emphasized the commitment of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to continue to be a partner to Myanmar in trade and investment, defense and security, and people-to-people exchanges. He mentioned that the Philippines, as Chair of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary, is committed to support Myanmar's priority in promoting and protecting Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in the region.
Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Aung Thu congratulated the Filipino people on the celebration of Philippine Independence. He stated that Myanmar recognizes the importance of Philippine-Myanmar relations and hopes that these will continue to be strengthened. He also expressed the Myanmar government’s appreciation for the USD 300,000 donation of the Philippines to the communities in Rakhine State.
