City Mayor, Council Members of Milpitas Celebrate 119th Anniversary of Philippine Independence

28 June 2017 MILPITAS, CA — The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco was invited by Milpitas Mayor Rich Tran to receive a Proclamation declaring June 20, 2017 as "Philippine Independence Remembrance Day" during the City Council Meeting at the City Hall of Milpitas on June 20.

Assembly Member Ro Khanna from the 17th District of California also presented the Consulate a citation in recognition of its support of the Filipino American Community in the district.

Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr., Madame Mariza S. Bensurto, Deputy Consul General Jaime Ramon T. Ascalon and Mrs. Cecile G. Ascalon received the proclamation and citation during the Meeting from Filipino-American Councilmember Garry Barbadillo.

There are about 10,000 Filipinos who call Milpitas their home, which is roughly 15% of the total population of the City.  The Consulate, in partnership with Seafood City, visits Milpitas eight times a year to conduct consular outreaches.
