San Francisco Mayor Hosts Flag-Raising in Honor of 119th Anniversary of Phl Independence
28 June 2017 SAN FRANCISCO — The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco was invited by the Honorable Edwin M. Lee, Mayor of San Francisco City, to hold a flag-raising event at the City Hall in honor of the 119th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12. The Mayor presented to Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. a Proclamation declaring June 12 as “Filipino-American Friendship and Heritage Day” in San Francisco.
Mayor Lee remarked that the only reason he would bring down the flag of the Golden State Warriors was for the celebration of Philippine Independence Day. He thanked Consul General Bensurto for his leadership and for being the City’s conduit to Manila, San Francisco’s Sister City, and to the entire Philippines.
The Consul General thanked the Mayor for expressing his concern for Marawi City. He also thanked the Mayor for his support of the Filipino-American Community, and for donating $400,000.00 to various Filipino Community projects, particularly the completion of the Filipino Community Center.
Members of the San Francisco-Manila Sister City Committee, led by Chair Carmen Colet and husband Ralph Colet, Ambassador Romeo and Dr. Ennie Arguelles, Filipino-American officials appointed by Mayor Lee, Filipino-American leaders and Consulate personnel attended the event.
