09 June 2017 NEW YORK — Council President Filipino-American Rolando Lavarro and the Jersey City Council led by Mayor Steven Fulop issued Proclamations and citations honoring the Philippines and its people during a pre-Independence Day event at the Jersey City Hall on June 02.
Officers, members, and volunteers of the Philippine-American Friendship Committee of New Jersey (PAFCOM) participated in the flag-raising ceremony, where the Philippine flag will fly alongside the US flag for one week in June, and in the issuance of the Proclamation and citations by the Jersey City Council.
The Philippine Government was represented by Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega while PAFCOM was led by its current President Rose Javier.
Jersey City is home to one of the largest Filipino-American communities in the entire United States. It likewise hosts, along with PAFCOM the annual Philippine Friendship Parade and Cultural Program every last Sunday of June. END
