PH Embassy in Mexico Commemorates Philippine Independence Day

MEXICO CITY 13 June 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Mexico, led by Ambassador Demetrio R. Tuason, hosted a diplomatic reception in commemoration of the 120th Philippine Independence Day at Club Naval Norte, Mexico City on 12 June 2018.

In his toast remarks, Ambassador Tuason highlighted the close cultural and historical ties between the Philippines and the Mexico, developed through centuries of constant interaction through the famous Manila-Acapulco Galleon trade.

The Ambassador likewise noted the recent positive developments in trade and investments between the Philippines and Mexico, and strongly encouraged greater commercial engagement, highlighting the need to protect and promote free trade and the multilateral trading system. 

Ambassador Tuason also took the opportunity to convey the country´s heartfelt appreciation to the members of Squadron 201, particularly its three original members, who fought valiantly alongside American and Philippine forces to liberate the country during World War II. 

The event, which featured traditional Filipino food and products, was well attended by officials from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the diplomatic corps, and contacts from the academe and the private sector.  END
