PH Consulate General in Jeddah Celebrates Philippine Independence Day with Diplomatic Reception

JEDDAH 27 June 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia held a diplomatic reception at the Intercontinental Hotel in Jeddah on 22 June 2018 to celebrate the 120th anniversary of proclamation of Philippine independence.
The event was attended by around 250 guests, including members of the Consular Corps in Jeddah, Saudi government officials, business groups, and representatives of the Filipino Community.
The guest of honor during the event was Director General Jamal B. Balkhoyor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah Region Branch. Ambassador Adnan V. Alonto of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh also attended the event.
In his message for the event, Consul General Edgar B. Badajos underscored the gains made by the Philippines since declaring independence 120 years ago, and how the excellent bilateral relations between the Philippines and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have contributed to these gains.
“I note that the significant contributions of OFWs in Saudi Arabia to nation-building have all been made against a backdrop of excellent bilateral relations between the Philippines and the Kingdom dating back to 1949… Philippines-Saudi relations have progressed considerably and looks to becoming even stronger and deeper to include new areas of cooperation in the years ahead” Consul General Badajos said.
Highlights of the event included cultural performances by the Consulate General’s very own officers and staff, and by a singing sensation from the Filipino community.
The Consulate General earlier held a double celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence and the 157th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal on 19 June 2018 at the Consulate grounds with a traditional flag raising ceremony and launching of the Sentro Rizal Jeddah. END
