Filipino Community in Angola Celebrates Kalayaan 2018 with Cultural Show

LUANDA 27 June 2018 - The Filipino Community celebrated the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence at the Jembas Compound in Viana, on the outskirts of Luanda, Angola on 09 June 2018.
The annual Kalayaan celebrations are organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Luanda, Angola with the help of volunteers from the Filipino Community. It is a highly anticipated event by the Filipino community as they gathered by hundreds, together with their friends and families, to celebrate their Filipino heritage and culture.
Around 300 people were present at the festivities. Attendees included members of the Diplomatic Corps in Luanda, Angola, officials from the Angolan government and contacts in the Angolan private sector.
First Secretary and Consul General Gines Jaime D. Ricardo Gallaga represented Ambassador Celia Anna M. Feria of the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal at the event.
The program consisted of a cultural show featuring traditional Filipino dances, a basketball game and parlor games for the children. Filipino food was served to all the guests.
In addition, Consul General Gallaga and Attaché Antonio Gonzales conducted a consular outreach missions from 08-10 June, providing consular services such as renewal of passports to the Filipino Community in Angola.
Jurisdiction over the Republic of Angola was transferred to the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal in late 2015. END
