SANTIAGO 28 June 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Chile (with jurisdiction over Peru) celebrated the Independence Day of the Philippines with the small but fast-growing community of Filipinos in Peru.

Festive OPM songs were performed by community members, and traditional Filipino cuisine and desserts were shared throughout the half-day celebration held in Pueblo Libre, Lima, on 24 June 2018.

In his address to the community, Consul Dennis John C. Briones underscored the importance of suffrage as a vital component of Philippine freedom and democracy, and in this regard encouraged all Filipino community members to register and vote during the forthcoming mid-term elections in 2019.

Consul Briones also updated them about the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to identify a new Philippine Honorary Consul in Lima.

In coordination with Filipino community coordinator Katbeth Kreimer, the Embassy also conducted a consular outreach mission which served 36 e-passport applicants, 14 overseas absentee voting (OAV) registrants, one client for reacquisition of Philippine citizenship, and a number of assistance-to-nationals (ATN) clientele.
