PH Embassy in Nairobi Celebrates Independence Day with Filipino Community in Kenya

NAIROBI 28 June 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Kenya celebrated the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence with the Filipino Community in Nairobi, Kenya on 10 June 2018.

With the theme “Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan” Ambassador to Kenya Uriel Norman R. Garibay read the speech of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano, which called for unity in fighting for freedom from want and ensuring a bountiful future for everyone.

The event began with the traditional flag-raising ceremony. Children of members of the Filipino Community recited the “Panatang Makabayan.”

One of the highlights of the event was an interpretative dance performed by dance instructor Arnie Umayam.

The Independence Day celebration continued after with the Filipino Community holding a Filipino Mass, potluck lunch, dance numbers, and raffle draws. END
