PH Embassy in Nairobi Hosts Kalayaan 2018 Diplomatic Reception, Reaffirms PH-Kenya Ties

NAIROBI 28 June 2018 — The Philippine Embassy in Kenya hosted a diplomatic reception in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence at Zen Garden Restaurant in Nairobi, Kenya on 12 June 2018.

More than 150 guests from the diplomatic community, members of the Filipino Community, Kenyan business people, and friends of the Embassy attended the reception.

The guest of honor was Political and Diplomatic Secretary Ambassador Tom Amolo of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

 “As we mark the 51st Anniversary of Philippine-Kenyan diplomatic relations, the Philippines is confident that this relationship will further be strengthened in the fifty years and beyond,” were the opening lines of Ambassador Garibay as he addressed the diplomatic community.

He mentioned the purchase of the new Embassy Chancery as a signal to Kenya of the Philippines’ commitment to a stronger partnership between the two countries. Ambassador Garibay likewise expressed appreciation to Kenya for its role in hosting United Nations (UN) Environment Program and the UN Human Settlements Program.

The reception featured a section displaying Philippine heroes, arts and tourist attractions, and was highlighted by the live cooking of Filipino street food favorites such as fishballs, squidballs, lumpia, puto, sorbetes, emapanadas and palitaw. END
