KUALA LUMPUR 03 July 2018 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Filipino Community in Malaysia commemorated the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence through the staging of the “Fiesta sa Embahada 2018,” held at the Amphitheatre of Kraftangan (Malaysia Craft Complex) in Kuala Lumpur on 24 June 2018.
Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose, Embassy officers and staff, and the Federation of Filipino Associations in Malaysia (FFAM) were part of the 1,200-strong crowd who flocked to the venue.
Also present was Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Deputy Administrator Arnell Ignacio, who was the event’s guest of honor and speaker. He was also prevailed upon to render a few songs.
During his welcome remarks, Ambassador Jose noted the importance of the occasion, and its significance to the Filipino community.
“Among the many ways for overseas Filipinos to show their love for the country is to encourage and support one another, and to always show the finest qualities of a Filipino—integrity, hard work and excellence,” he said.
The Ambassador also read the Independence Day message of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and also encouraged those qualified to register as overseas absentee voters for the midyear elections next year.
For his part, OWWA Deputy Administrator Ignacio echoed the Ambassador’s message of working together to uplift the profile of the Filipino in Malaysia, and also paid tribute to overseas Filipino workers who work hard to ensure a better life for their families back home.
