PH Embassy Celebrates Independence Day in Cairo, Egypt

CAIRO 03 July 2018 – The Philippine Embassy, together with the Filipino Community in Cairo, Egypt, celebrated the 120th anniversary of Philippine independence at the El Sawy Culture Wheel on 29 June 2018.
The event started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by remarks from Ambassador to Egypt Leslie J. Baja.
Ambassador Baja conveyed a message of unity, patriotism and love for country. He also likewise echoed President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s message of “cherishing the Philippines’ sovereignty and democracy,” as well as Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano’s message of “reaffirming our shared heritage of independence.”
After his remarks, Ambassador Baja was awarded with a plaque of appreciation by leaders of the Filipino community in Cairo, for his unwavering support for the Filipino Community’s events and projects.
Members of the Filipino Community showcased their musical and terpsichorean talents. The program also included a Philippine fashion show, promotion of Filipino food products, and a raffle draw with roundtrip tickets to Manila as grand prizes.
The Independence Day celebration provided the Embassy another opportunity to engage the Filipino community, advise them of important events, and strengthen the bayanihan spirit among Pinoys in Egypt. END
