Filipino Community Leaders Break Bread at Consulate for Independence Day in HK

HONG KONG 05 July 2018 – Filipino Community leaders broke bread with officials of the Philippine Consulate General in a sumptuous traditional breakfast held at the Chancery in Hong Kong’s Central District, in observance of the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence on 12 June 2018.

In his welcome remarks to more than 150 guests, Consul General Antonio A. Morales lauded Filipino workers and professionals in Hong Kong for their dedication and hard work, and their huge contribution to the Hong Kong society.

He also encouraged all Filipinos in Hong Kong to cooperate and support the Consulate in its programs and activities in the promotion national interest and protection of the rights and well-being of OFWs in Hong Kong.

Consul General Morales and Consulate officials read the the independence day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Vice President Leni G. Robredo, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III, and Acting Secretary of Social Welfare and Development Virginia Nazarrea Orogo.

Members of different Filipino organizations, media partners, and church groups partook of “Pinoy Almusal” (Filipino breakfast) consisting of tapa (beef jerky), longganisa (pork sausage), daing na bangus (dried salted milkfish), garlic fried rice, tuyo (dried sardines), dilis (dried anchovies), hotdogs, salted eggs with fresh tomatoes, and champorado (chocolate porridge).

The event was highlighted by an entertainment program featuring OPM songs rendered by Consulate General staff, and members of the Hong Kong Musicians Union. END
